The Congregational Churches and the Christian Churches unite.

1938
The unsound 70-foot spire is fortunately taken down just weeks before the 1938 hurricane strikes the city. In 1939 the Lindsay Chapel is dedicated.

Under Dr. Leamon and Margaret Morton's leadership, the Women's Fellowship (formerly the Shepard Missionary Society) unites the Wednesday Informal Group (WIGS), the Fellowship Readers, and the Business and Professional Women (B&P).

1948
The Tercentenary Commemoration of the Cambridge Platform is celebrated jointly by Unitarians and Congregationalists at First Church and First Parish in Cambridge.

1957
The Congregational Christian Churches and the Evangelical and Reformed Church unite to form the United Church of Christ.

1960
On March 5, Eleanor Roosevelt speaks in the sanctuary at a church-sponsored city youth rally.

1967
Duke Ellington performs his Concert of Sacred Music in the sanctuary on March 29.

Sanctuary in 1972

1972
The Frobenius organ is installed and the sanctuary renovated.

1987
First Church Shelter is established for homeless men.

1989-1991
Just Peace Church declaration and Covenant Testimony are adopted. Commitment is made to be an open and affirming church.

1998
The 350th anniversary of the Cambridge Platform is celebrated in October.
