Choir
The First Church Choir is made up entirely of volunteer singers, singing under the direction of Peter Sykes, Boston-area performer, early music scholar, teacher, and composer. With a repertoire of sacred music ranging from Monteverdi to Charles Ives to American Sacred Harp hymnody to African folk songs, and including many original works by Composer-in-Residence Patricia Van Ness, Peter Sykes, and others, the Choir is dedicated to deepening and enriching Sunday morning worship through song. Special music is prepared at Christmas and Easter, often with guest instrumentalists.
Rehearsals take place on Thursday evenings from 7:45 to 9:30 in the Choir Room and from 9:15 to 10:00 on Sunday mornings, September through June. In July and August, a “pick-up Choir” rehearses Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 9:45. Experienced singers are always welcome! We work hard, but we have a great time doing it. If you are interested in joining the Choir, please speak with Peter Sykes after Sunday morning worship, or call his office: (617) 661-0570.
