Worship

Worship is the center of our church’s life—we were made for the praise of God’s glory!  In worship, we give thanks for God’s beauty and goodness.

We receive God’s gift of mercy. We experience God’s power to bring life from death. Worship also “rehearses us” in practices such as hospitality, prayer, gratitude, generosity, reconciliation, healing, and silence—disciplines that help us grow us as followers of Jesus.

Worship is focused on God, but it does not distance us from the needs and challenges of the world. As we worship God, God’s Spirit re-shapes our hearts to care about God’s cares—justice and human solidarity. The God we adore judges the sincerity of our praise by its fruits of increased compassion, generosity, and joy.

MORNING WORSHIP IN THE SANCTUARY

Every Sunday at 11 a.m. from September to June (and at 10 a.m. in July and August).

The morning service follows a warm, welcoming, and thoughtful “traditional” order of worship. It normally includes:

  • great choral and organ music;
  • congregational singing of hymns, old and new;
  • assurance of healing and pardon;
  • a time to greet each other and share Christ’s peace;
  • Bible readings that ground us in the story of God’s love;
  • a sermon that connects the Bible to our lives;
  • prayers for the world, the church and ourselves;
  • an invitation to give of ourselves and our resources
  • a closing blessing
  • holy communion on the first Sunday of each month, and on other special Sundays during the year.

Occasionally the morning service includes other practices and rituals—for example, commissioning of leaders, reception of new members, healing prayers, dedication of new Bibles, blessings for people leaving the community. After worship, we meet, chat, and share simple refreshments. Once a month, often the second Sunday, we eat lunch together. All are welcome!

FOR PARENTS OF LITTLE ONES: Nursery care is provided most Sundays form 9:15 am until the end of the worship service. The nursery is staffed by paid and certified childcare workers and volunteers.  On most Sundays at 11:30 am, an "Intro to Godly Play" story time will be offered to 2 and 3 year-olds.
