Durufle Requiem
The morning worship service on Sunday, October 26, 2008, featured the music of Maurice Durufle--his Requiem, an exquisitely moving work. This requiem was sung jointly by the United Parish in Brookline Chancel Choir and the Choir of First Church in Cambridge. The two choirs (a total of 55 singers) learned the music separately, joining together for rehearsals in the middle of October. Peter Sykes, Director of Music at First Church, played the extremely virtuosic organ part written by Durufle as a substitute for his original arrangement of the piece for full orchestra. Susan DeSelms, Director of Music at United Parish, conducted the combined choirs for the work. The two choirs also sang the work together during United Parish in Brookline's morning service on Sunday, November 2.Below are "Apple lossless" format files of the October 26th performance, suitable for playing on your iPod or with QuickTime on Windows or Mac, or for burning a CD with no loss of quality from the original files. If you do burn your own CD, do not insert any silence between tracks - they've been edited to flow smoothly from one to the next. You will need Quicktime to play the files, which can be downloaded here for free. A CD is also being planned that will include both the October 26th and November 2nd performances.
