Upcoming Youth Group Activities

Youth group members and families, please save the following dates:

Youth Group “Lock in” at First Church January 5-6

Join us for the Epiphany Potluck and service, and plan to stay around for a late night of conversation, fun, games of “sardines” in the Sanctuary, and sleeping “under the dome.” Come at 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, January 5, for the potluck. We’ll be finished by 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

Honoring Rev  Dr. MLK Jr. Sunday, January 20, 2:00-4:00 p.m.

We have a few ideas for honoring MLK’s legacy this year. If the weather is agreeable, we could bundle up and walk some of the African American Heritage Trail in Cambridge together and check out spots related to our own First Church history. Otherwise we could view some rarer clips of Rev. King’s speeches and discuss what they mean for us today and how we as youth can continue to lead our congregation on “the Road to Freedom.”

Let’s Talk About Drugs Sunday, February 3,  2:00-4:00 p.m., Harter Room

Join us for an important and we hope relatively fun conversation about teen wellness and substance abuse. Will Slotnick, founder and director of Wellness Collaborative, has worked as a substance abuse prevention and wellness specialist for over 25 years, providing drug education, stress management, and mindfulness training to students, parents, faculty, and administrators at hundreds of schools across the United States.

To address institutional racism, please call your state representative and Senator, and ask for abolishment of mandatory minimums in sentencing. Ask them to contact the Joint Committee dealing with this legislation. For more background on this...
