ONLINE PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS

WEEKLY BIBLE STUDY  This group will meet every Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom, continuing with a focus on the Gospel of John. What is the significance of Jesus’ humanity and divinity in his earthly ministry? We study not merely as an academic discipline, but with the desire to know God more intimately.

SPIRITUAL PRACTICES WITH LEXI  Join Pastoral Associate Lexi Boudreaux every Friday morning at 8:00 a.m. via Zoom for a place to connect, check-in, and engage in spiritual practices together. We will be reading scripture and practicing different ways of interacting with the prayer practices of our Christian tradition. Offerings will vary weekly, but will include some form of Lectio Divina or reflection practice about the reading for the week. Looking forward to centering ourselves together!

FIRST CHURCH CHOIR ZOOM CALL Join Peter Sykes every Thursday evening at 7:45 p.m. for a virtual check-in and/or rehearsal.

PRAYER MINISTRY  In these times, we all have so many prayers on our hearts, whether they be for family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, or the world at large. As a congregation, while we can’t physically be together, we can still hold one another’s concerns in prayer collectively. If you are interested in receiving a weekly email with prayer requests from our church community to pray for throughout the week, please complete this google form. Please send prayer requests to Pastoral Associate Lexi Boudreaux (lexi@firstchurchcambridge.org).

TUESDAY EVENING COMPLINE PRAYER SERVICE, Tuesdays, 8:30 - 8:45 p.m.   Are you feeling the need to switch up the way you connect with worship this summer? Are you craving some time before bed to center yourself in sacred stillness and the comfort of community? We are offering a new participatory evening prayer service this summer. Join us on Zoom for a short evening prayer service on Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m.

PLANS FOR A PHASED RE-OPENING

Governor Baker has announced the loosening of restrictions for houses of worship in the state of Massachusetts. The opportunity to re-open is good news; however, the continuing threat of COVID-19 obliges us to re-open thoughtfully and carefully. As a community of faith that seeks to protect the health and safety of each and every member of the body of Christ, we have decided to delay any changes to our current model of live-streamed worship until at least July. In July and August, we will experiment with inviting a small number of members to attend worship in-person to participate as lay leaders in the online worship for the wider community.  This will allow us to begin to get comfortable with our health and safety protocols, so that we can carefully prepare for the time when more and more of us will be able to gather. It will also provide the opportunity for you to see more people leading our worship. Any changes we make to our current practices are dependent on public health data and COVID-19 case counts in Massachusetts.

Our current phased reopening plan might need change to assure the safety of all. We hope that this summer will bring new ways of being together as a church and provide a time of exploration and inspiration in this season of uncertainty. It may be a while before we can all see each other again on Sunday mornings, but that remains our goal. With God’s help, we’ll get there when the time is right.
