Children are a vital part of our community. Just as Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me,” we at First Church strive to welcome the youngest into our midst in worship, fellowship, formation, and service. In addition to multigenerational worship, we offer specific programs and supervision for children of all ages during the morning worship hour when we are gathered in person.
As we continue to live through a pandemic, we are offering Remote Church School UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Our Remote Church School for preschoolers to middle schoolers include classroom learning via Zoom and our YouTube channel, videos of picture book readings from our sanctuary’s book corner, multigenerational creative art projects, and plenty of fun. Our church school activities take place during the 9:30 Formation Hour from mid-September to early June. You can register for Remote Church School at any point in the year. Church school classes are generally offered on third and fourth Sundays of the month.
Multigenerational Creative Arts Workshops
Folks of all ages are invited to gather for a hands-on crafty, creative project that celebrates and contributes to our communal faith journey. We explore expressions of our faith practices through art, such as designing new images for our bulletin covers and creating other beautiful objects for display and use in worship. During the pandemic, the church is providing supplies for pickup each month so that we can work together, while apart, and share the project through our Zoom screens. Creative Arts Workshops are offered on first Sundays of the month.
Our Children’s Book Corner: Read-Alouds
We at First Church are blessed with an inviting space for the littlest among us to explore, read, and play during our Sunday Morning Worship. While we are physically distancing, members of the church are recording themselves reading from our collection of picture books in the Children’s Book Corner for our smallest members to enjoy. Even though this is meant for our children, members of every age have found these videos a welcome shelter in the storm. Tune in to the monthly read-aloud video on our YouTube channel on second Sundays. Read-Alouds are offered on second Sundays of the month.
