Welcome Ebony, and Other Church Staff Updates

September 22, 2021

As we get oriented to a new church program year and regather together, we have some updates to our staff roster to share with you.

We have the joy of welcoming a new Ministerial Intern into our midst. Ebony West is in her second year of the Master of Divinity program at Harvard Divinity School. Hailing from Orlando, Florida, she is here to pursue her calling as a military chaplain for the U.S. Army. As a Ministerial Intern at First Church, she will be involved with the Friday Café, the Young Adults group,  worship planning, and pastoral care. Ebony comes eager to learn from and serve this amazing community and we are eager to learn and grow with her as well.

After a summer away from First Church completing an intensive summer spiritual care training called Clinical Pastoral Education at Beverly Hospital, Jaz Buchanan has returned to First Church this fall as a second-year Pastoral Associate. You may have seen her over the past few weeks leading First Worship on the Lawn and Hybrid Worship in the Sanctuary. We are thrilled to be blessed with her spiritual gifts for embodied worship and her creative heart for multigenerational formation.

Back in June, we gathered on Zoom for a congregational meeting, voting unanimously to call Lexi Boudreaux to the position of Transitional Minister, moving us one more step forward in our staffing plan. She began this full-time position on September 1 and will be ordained to it on Sunday, October 24, at 3:00 p.m. at her home church, United Parish in Brookline. Lexi is supervising new Ministerial Intern Ebony West, as well as continuing in her work with spiritual formation, digital ministry, worship planning, financial stewardship, and thinking intentionally about how we welcome new folks into our First Church community.

Our staff is learning new ways of regathering this season, and we are excited to see how God is doing a new thing through this transitional time.

God is good. All the time.
