High Schoolers Team up with Homeless Ministries to Feed the Hungry

January 11, 2021

A group of over 100 Cambridge Rindge and Latin students, including our own Allison and Christina Korn, has stepped up in a big way to make bag lunches for the Friday Café.

Since the start of the pandemic, the Friday Café has been serving meals-to-go on Friday afternoons, distributing bag lunches made by generous Cambridge residents. Enter CRLS’s Club Four, a club that in non-pandemic times exists to prepare meals for a local shelter. With that shelter on hiatus for COVID reasons, Club Four has been looking around for other ways to help. They were thrilled to learn about First Church’s bag lunch program, and we were thrilled to hear from them! The club delivered their first 60 lunches on New Year’s Eve, and have committed to bringing us dozens more each week for the remainder of the school year.

Club Four is hoping to contribute cooked meals for the First Church Shelter in the new year, and recently helped collect clothing, cleaning products, and food pantry items to share with homeless and low-income neighbors.

One goal of First Church Homeless Ministries is to make it easy for neighbors to support neighbors going through hard times, by providing concrete ways to help. We are so grateful for the chance to partner with students who share our strong commitment to unhoused and hungry people in our city. Thank you, Club Four!
