Ministry Discernment and Formation

"Thank God for the First Church In Care Team!  They asked thoughtful, challenging questions; they offered wise, helpful guidance; and they lovingly had my back through all the ins and outs and ups and downs of the ordination process.  I am a better minister because of the ways they ministered to me." — Jocelyn Gardner Spencer

First Church has a long history of accompanying women and men who feel called to ordained ministry through the stages of the discernment and formation process. If you are wondering what a “call” is and whether you’re experiencing one, or are seeking to explore your call more deeply, First Church is ready to walk with you through that process.

At First Church, working with candidates in Discernment and Formation is a ministry of the Board of Deacons. A team of lay people and clergy gather as needed to companion and shepherd students through each step of the process.

If you would like to know more, or would like to schedule an initial meeting with the Discernment and Formation team, you are welcome to contact Linda Ziebell, Chair, at [email protected] or Senior Minister Dan Smith.
